Shinjini Sengupta ... A sad reminder of Childrens Reality Shows in India

The reality shows in India have been very successful. The TV channels in India have openly embraced this concept, which give them huge viewership, their TRPs get increased manyfold, and hence that helps them to churn out huge amounts of money from these programs. Makes a really good economic sense for these TV channels to include these programs in their menu !

I guess the time has come to have a "Reality Check" on these "Reality Programs". The Reality Check has to be undergone in regard to those programs that involve Children.

Recently, in a Reality Dance Show, a 11th class student Shinjini Sengupta had become the target of the hype that TV Reality Shows create.

She had participated in this reality show, and it seems that her dance performance was termed as "Incredibly Bad" by the judges ... "in front of everybody". The dissappointment she had to face was there for everyone to see ... and she was in tears ... and visibly in pain as she felt that she her "Swaabhimaan" was compromised in front of everyone. To make the matters worse ... this was filmed by the TV cameras and broadcasted to the whole world.

One could guess what would be going on in her mind when she was being made a "target" ... or atleast the was the feeling that she would be getting at that moment. She would think ... ab kya hoga ... mere classmates mera mazaak karenge ... mere ghar ke padosi mera mazaak karenge ... mein tho kisi ko apna mooh dhikhane ke laayak hi nahi rahi ...

I guess this age of 16 years is very crucial ... as a person either boy or girl ... is like a "parwaana" ... and he/she easily gets attracted by seeing a "candle" ... but never realises the "danger" that is awaiting it if it approaches the Candle.

Its a stage of neither child nor adult ... and for some people the mind tends to fail to distinguish what is right and what is wrong ...

The case of Shinjini Sengutpa is just that ... she visibly got attracted to the "fame" and "money" that this Reality Show offered ... but found herself completely "trapped" when she felt that she was made a "target" ... and what happens ? ... her self belief got dented !

When the government boasts of having made it illegal for children to "work" through legislation ... then is it not this case of Children Reality Shows a case of "Children Working" ?

Sure, children should learn to dance, sing, etc., but there is a proper way of doing that ... by not making it a HIGH STAKES GAME !

I just hope that this girl recovers and carries on with her life ! ... Somebody needs to tell her that it was just a "game" and a small part of her life ... Time changes everything ... she surely has a bright future ... God bless her !
