The religion of Hinduism has been built upon the tenets of Sanatana Dharma. This is not a religion but a way of life. It is quite obvious from observing various religions that the Teachings or Preachings of a Religious Guru have become the foundation of that Religion and those teachings have been incorporated in the Religious Books of those religions.
Take Islam, the words of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him), have been recorded in Koran, and the events happenning in his life have been recorded in Hadith.
Christians follow the words in Bible, which was written by many writers, but the central Guru is Lord Jesus Christ. Hence, it would be right to say that Christians consider bible as the sacred book, and Lord Jesus Christ as their saviour, the "Son" that the "Father" has sent to us for guidance.
Buddhists follow the teachings of Lord Buddha.
In Hinduism, the Sacred Book is Bhagawad Gita which are the words spoken by Shri Krishna, whom we Hindus consider as the "Supreme Personality of Godhead". It would be wrong to consider that the "Hinduism" that we call today as a "Religion". There are many theories that one would get, and all those theories have their own logic and basis to realise god. So, Hinduism is word given to all those philosophies together, and that makes it a very diverse and inclusive subject, unlike the teachings of Christianity or Islam.
However, the central part in Hinduism is not to blindly follow the teachings in Bhagawad Gita, but to understand the eternal position of living entities in respect to the God's Creation, that is this universe, as written in Bhagawad Gita.
Hence, we see that there is a very thin line of demarcation between "Hindu Religious Philosophy" and "Day to Day living of Hindus". The Whole lives of hindus, right from the time of their birth on this earth till they die, is subject to the Religious Philosophy, contained in Bhagawat Gita. And the basis of the words spoken by Shri Krishna, is the Eternal Truth of Sanatana Dharma.
It would be very hard to separate Religion from daily lives of we humans, irrespective of the religion, whether it is Hinduism, Christianity or Islam. Essentially, all the religious principles that the people of these religions follow are the work of the SAME and ONE GOD, and hence the foundations of all these religions essentially has to be the Eternal Truth or Sanatana Dharma. We all are subjected to the Laws of the Eternal Truth.
To just give the example of why i argue that Hinduism and Day-to-day lives of people are inseparable for Hindus, i would take the example of the Four Divisions that Human Society, as contained in Bhagawat Gita. This is not the Caste System that i am talking, but it is the Varna System.
According to this system, the human life is divided into four Varnas namely, Brahmacharya, Grihasthi, Vaanaprastha and Sanyasi.
Brahmacharya is the stage of the human life, when a human takes birth and as he/she attains youth, he/she is expected to learn the Eternal Truth. Hence, we see that a young man searches for a Bonafide Guru, and under the guidance of that Bonafide Guru, he gets the "Knowledge" or "Education" that is needed to make him/her a better person. We are now in Kalyug, hence we see that we children taking their "Education" in Schools and Colleges. Previously it was in "Gurukuls".
The positives of the "Education" in this Kalyug is that the children are getting Educated to get the requisite knowledge and skills to acquire that good job. But, it also signifies the downfall of the human society that is a symptom of Kalyug. Essentially, "Education" should help understand the Eternal Truth, and this decline of the Hindu Society today, in its entire history, is due to the neglect of this basic requirement. One thing must be noted here, that this Decline of Hinduism was mentioned in the Vedas. This neglect to give proper "Education" to the Hindu Children, is the foremost reason for the deterioration of family values in the hindu society, failed marriages, social unrest and other social problems.
So the wise thing to do, is to make sure that "Bhagawad Gita" should be made as a compulsory subject in all the schools across the country. The Eternal Truth contained therein, should be taught till a child completes his schooling. And side by side, he should be getting education in other fields, which will make him enable to earn a proper living.
Grihasthi is the second stage in Varna System, wherein after getting the knowledge of the Eternal Truth, the person becomes "knowledgeble" and understands his responsibilites, in the way they are meant to be understood. Hence he/she ties knot and leads happy and meaningful life. Since, he understands the Eternal Truth and also he would have the skills to make a proper living, his life becomes more meaningful.
Vaanaprastha is the third stage in Varna System, when a person comes to a stage after having enjoyed all the material wealth at his disposal, becomes wary of the material wealth that he/she has been using, and decides to live a very simple life. Hence, he/she retires to live a secluded life with his/her spouse. In the olden days, Forests used to give that serene atmosphere to lead the simple life that people aspired for, as they no longer aspired to have the material needs that they have been enjoying till that time. This can be compared to the Self Actualization Need that is mentioned in the Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
Sanyaasi is the Forth and the final Stage of Varna System, when a person ultimately gets fed up of all the worldly dealings with other human beings, and hence decides to take "Sanyaas", becomes a Wandering Monk and thereby becomes detached with all the worldly dealings till his demise. The great king Ashoka, after having fought many battles and realising the ill effects that wars have, took up Buddhism and became a wandering monk till his death.
Well, the varna system is quite logical and scientific, according to me.
In today's world, a person following the Vaanaprastha and Sanyaasi Varnas is rare. That doen't mean that people should follow these last two Varnas. But, if his/her GURU, who is a bonafide guru, advises him/her to follow any of the last two Varnas, then he/she has to follow that.
If we observe the Varna System contained in Bhagawad Gita, then we realise that Normal Day-to-Day lives of Hindus and "Religion" are interlinked and inseparable. Perhaps that is the flavour of the religion of Hinduism.
Religion is ingrained in the lives of people, whether they follow Hinduism, Islam or Christianity. Mere non-recognition of this inseparation of day-to-day life and religion, by some religions cannot deny the ETERNAL TRUTH.
Essentially, the fact that we humans and other living beings have taken birth on this earth, means that we are subjected to the eternal rules of Sanatana Dharma, irrespective of any religion.
So, day-to-day lives and religion CANNOT be separated by some "fabricated religious theories".
