The current ongoing agitation by the Gujjar community for getting ST status is showing no signs of stopping. The Gujjar Community is currently under the OBC status. And are seriously pursuing to get the status of ST, that will enable them to get more jobs in the Government through reservations.
The Gujjar Community was a Kshatryia Class who ruled much of the north India in the their hay days. It seems that as time passed and the rule of the British was established in India, they had to sink into oblivion. Also what is worth noting is their contribution in repelling the attack by pakistan to occupy Kashmir, during the partition of India.
Now, they seem to have some tough times, and to get some jobs they want to get the Scheduled Tribe Status. So, we see the news channels being dominated with the news of Gujjar Agitations. Well, their demand does seem to be quite valid. Each and every community has the right to live peaceful and prosperous lives in Independent India.
The whole Reservation Saga seems to have taken the political establishment off guard. On the one hand, each and every political party wants to capitalize on this reservations, by giving its benefits to voter communities whom they are affiliated to ... on the other hand, the opposite political parties seem to be bent upon denying those benefits to them.
Typical Indian politics being played, in the name of Reservations.
The BJP which currently is ruling Rajasthan, wants to subside/bring an end, to this agitation because of the upcoming state elections. Ofcourse, there certainly would be some caste politics being played by the BJP in denying this demand by the Gujjars.
BJP government in Rajasthan had said NO to Gujjars till now, and their decision to recommend to the centre what Gujjars are demanding, is surely an effort to make sure that the BJP wants to be seen as the party which has ruled the state properly.
But, the centre has its own reasons for not granting this ST status to the Gurjars.
First, If Gurjars get the ST status, then they fear that more and more such communities in OBCs might ask similar status, which would be an uphill task for the government to handle.
Second, if the Centre grants the ST status to the gurjars, then the congress high command fears that it might just give the impetus for the BJP to gain some good image in Rajasthan, which is severely battered now, which is not desirable for them in the upcoming Rajasthan State Elections and also in the National Elections next year. Now that BJP has successfully won Karnataka, Congress would want to deny any advantage for BJP.
You know, sometimes i feel that really all these politicians are just not worth to rule the country. How can one play politics when the livelihoods of people are under stake ?
This reservation policy just sucks. It sucks because it is being used to gain unfair political mileages by various political parties.
Is it not written in Indian Constitution that each and every citizen of India has the right to education ? Then why is it that the political parties are not giving talking about educating people first ? and that would create more and more jobs. It is not necessary that people should do only government jobs.
Take the example of Gujjars. They seem to be very good farmers. Now, why is that the government not giving them proper incentives so that they excel in farming. When the government shows its back, by denying the required facilites to them, then obviously they will take the excuse of Reservations, and the result is that we see the NCR being choked because of their agitation.
When it is written in the constitution that each and every person has the right to education, and if the government and all political parties show interest in making them literate, then where would there be the need for reservations.
Surely, a job should be given to those who are worth and qualified for it. Some "dull" and "unqualified person" should not be given some government job, through reservations. If that is the case then nothing worst than that.
This skewed policies of the political parties, in trying to gain some petty political mileages, by twisting and turning the constitution, will obviously result in unhappiness of some communities.
Then to rectify the situation, the government uses some other undesirable means like the Reservation Legislation, with the hope that those communites are brought to the mainstream in a small time.
To say the least, Indian Politics and Indian Political Parties are just good for nothing.
I wonder when will this narrow mindedness of our politicians end ?
